Nevermore Completed

After more than six months of effort, I finally completed the Nevermore Legendary Staff in Guild Wars 2!

The biggest time-consuming parts of crafting the Nevermore:

Wood farming: an insane quantity of Elder Wood is required. Literally an entire forest. I farmed Orr on a daily basis for weeks on end and completing one crafting component only led to more. It was a little like climbing a mountain in Colorado; just when you thought you were reaching the summit, you discovered it was a false peak and there was a higher point to climb to.

Daily crafting components: certain legendary components require resources that can only be crafted once per day. You might have gathered everything you need and still be a week away from crafting the item simply due to the mandatory cooldown period.

Mastery points: the legendary crafting process requires mastery in all areas of the game, so I spent a significant amount of time leveling up my mastery ranking in Tyria and Heart of Thorns.

I found the entire process to very rewarding. It was difficult and complex enough that only a limited number of legendary weapons will be in the game. At the same time, it was not so difficult that you have to be an elite player to achieve it (translation: players like myself that play just for fun can achieve it).

Bonus: the skin unlocks. I can throw my Nevermore skin on any staff on any character. AWESOME!

Final thought: I originally started the Legendary crafting process with the idea of crafting a Bifrost. But now that I have my Nevermore, I really don't want the Bifrost. So I have a stack of dye that I think I will consume to increase my unlocked dyes.

Old Nevermore Post

This is a blog post I wrote from January 2017.

Progress update on the Nevermore Legendary Weapon in Guild Wars 2:
First two tiers of the Legendary Collection are completed. I have the Ravenswood Staff, which is crafted with the recipe acquired at completion of the Tier 2 Collection.

Currently working on the Tier 3 Collection. All the easy ravens are caught. The remainder are either difficult (and haven't been attempted yet) or require skills I don't have yet (more HoT mastery points needed).

I intend to start up as soon as Wintersday is over and I sell all my gifts. Other than achieving dailies, I have spent the entirety of Wintersday running the Jumping Puzzle. The 10 Wintersday Gifts per run are just too rewarding. I'm averaging about 25-30 runs per hour, but I can't really sustain it for a long time due to my hands/fingers cramping up. I'm sure my carpal tunnel hates Wintersday! I had originally been hoping to craft my personal flurry, Winter's Presence, but the final collection item is the festive drinking title. I calculate it will cost me about 400g to complete and I think I'd rather save that for legendary components.
